FOUNDATIONS IN PARISH NURSING
Institute for Ongoing Formation
Course Description:
An educational, spiritual, and personal growth experience for Registered Nurses. It is designed to introduce fundamental concepts of the practice of parish nursing, which has its basis in the Christian faith, and seeks health promotion with a preventative focus. The course is open to any Registered Nurse who is interested in integrating spirituality, health, and wholeness into their nursing practice. This program meets the criteria of the Canadian Association for Parish Nursing Ministry (CAPNM) Standards of Practice and Core Competencies.

Parish Nursing Program
A Parish Nurse is a professional registered nurse in a staff position within a Christian congregation or health care organization. As a member of the faith community the parish nurse links faith and health to combine professional nursing practice within the Christian ministry. Parish nurses focus primarily on preventive health and spiritual care.
The parish nurse program is open only to licensed registered nurses. The program consist of three courses leading to a certification:
- Parish Nursing 302 "Parish Administration and Team Ministry"
- Religious Studies 375 "Christian Doctrine"
- Parish Nursing 485 "Parish Nursing"

International Parish Nurse Resource Centre
Educational partners teach the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Curriculum to registered nurses in their communities. Educational partners are agencies such as colleges, universities, health care systems, or community health agencies who connect with the IPNRC through a contract and purchase the curriculum.These faculty coordinators attend the Faith Community Nursing Curriculum and are commissioned through the IPNRC to teach the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing Curriculum and Equipping the Saints: Continuing Education for Faith Community Nurses and Congregations
